- Vizcaíno Casas, Fernando
- b. 1926, ValenciaWriterAfter taking degrees in law, journalism and business administration, Vizcaíno Casas embarked on what was to prove a long and prolific career as a writer of plays, essays, novels and film adaptations. His play La senda iluminada (The Illuminated Path) dates from 1949, and was followed by, among others, El escultor de sus sueños (The Sculptor of his Dreams) (1953), Las luciérnagas (The Glow-worms) (1963), and Los derrotados (The Defeated). His prose writings are light satirical presentations of contemporary social and political reality, as the titles suggest: Niñas…al salón (Girls, to the Drawingroom) (1976), De camisa vieja a chaqueta nueva: crónica de una evolución ideológica (From "Old Shirt" [i.e. member of the old Falange] to New Jacket: Chronicle of an Ideological Evolution) (1976), Y al tercer año resucitó (And in the Third Year he Rose Again) (1978), Isabel camisa vieja (Isabel the "Old Shirt") (1987), and El año en que Franco murió en la cama (The Year Franco Died in his Bed) (1992).See also: novelEAMONN RODGERS
